The sustainability in the marine industry is at full speed. Not least because legislators, but also customers, are urging to sail cleaner and more efficiently. Danfoss supports the sector by providing its standard frequency converters with new software to perform all facets of electrical energy conversion. By applying specific software you can use the same drive as a so-called DC-DC converter to charge and discharge batteries and to convert a varying battery voltage into a stable DC voltage or vice versa.

The Danfoss VACON® NXP Grid Converter, recently awarded with the exclusive Solar Impulse Efficient Solution Label, provides an alternative source of power for ships in port, which plays a key role in reducing fuel consumption, improving efficiency and thus reaching emission targets (carbon, nitrogen and sulfur). By sourcing electrical power from the on-shore electricity grid via a set of cables, ships no longer have to rely on their auxiliary diesel engines to generate electrical power for communications, lighting and other on-board equipment.

In our Application Development Center in Gorinchem we offer expert support and state-of-the-art test facilities for your business. We have a high power test bench for testing your panel up to one MW as well as an application test bench for testing and verification of a complete drive system.

Danfoss is committed to creating a sustainable, competitive future for the marine industry. Join us!

    Ensure safe DC-grid selectivity
VACON® NXP DCGuard™ enables fast disconnection and full selectivity between DC grids for all VACON NXP series drives.
Utilising DC grids rather than AC grids enables power distribution with lower power losses. However, ensuring selectivity and limited short circuit energy requires more sophisticated protection devices.

    Speciality

Danfoss helps to meet the demand for lower energy consumption and fewer emissions. We provide our standard frequency converters with dedicated software to perform all facets of electrical energy conversion. We constantly develop and test new solutions in our Application Development Center (ADC) in Gorinchem (NL), also combined with new energy sources such as batteries and hydrogen. We do this by making optimum use of our frequency converters, which are used in fully electric or hybrid systems.

Danfoss has a long experience of using frequency converters in renewable power generation. The same technology can be successfully applied to marine applications such as shore-to-ship applications, shaft generator systems and static power supplies. Ship owners and port operators can utilize grid converter technology to significantly reduce carbon and nitrogen emission levels and improve ship fuel economy, thus responding to the latest changes in emission control legislation.

    Projects

    And the winner is…

Three vessels are competing for the title Ship of the Year: the inland vessel Sendo Liner, dredger DC Orisant and the motor yacht Bravo Eugenia. These have respectively been build at Concordia Damen, IHC and Oceance. All three vessels contain the Danfoss Drives solutions! The winner will be announced during Europort, November 5-8th 2019, Rotterdam. Join us at booth 1306!
