Hybridisation and electrification
Hybrid solutions support all vessel types by complying with emission limits and by reducing both emission levels and fuel consumption. At the same time, hybrid propulsion and thruster solutions can extend engine maintenance intervals and engine life. With a hybrid power supply, it is even possible to reduce the size of the engines, saving investment costs and space on board.
Full electrification is a highly sustainable option for ferries, work boats and other vessels which can charge batteries regularly. With full electrification combined with renewable shore power supply you achieve not only low, but zero emissions from the ship.

VACON® NXP DCGuard™ enables fast disconnection and full selectivity between DC grids for all VACON NXP series drives.
Utilising DC grids rather than AC grids enables power distribution with lower power losses. However, ensuring selectivity and limited short circuit energy requires more sophisticated protection devices.

Speciality
Danfoss helps to meet the demand for lower energy consumption and fewer emissions. We provide our standard frequency converters with dedicated software to perform all facets of electrical energy conversion. We constantly develop and test new solutions in our Application Development Center (ADC) in Gorinchem (NL), also combined with new energy sources such as batteries and hydrogen. We do this by making optimum use of our frequency converters, which are used in fully electric or hybrid systems.
Danfoss has a long experience of using frequency converters in renewable power generation. The same technology can be successfully applied to marine applications such as shore-to-ship applications, shaft generator systems and static power supplies. Ship owners and port operators can utilize grid converter technology to significantly reduce carbon and nitrogen emission levels and improve ship fuel economy, thus responding to the latest changes in emission control legislation.
Projects
And the winner is…
Three vessels are competing for the title Ship of the Year: the inland vessel Sendo Liner, dredger DC Orisant and the motor yacht Bravo Eugenia. These have respectively been build at Concordia Damen, IHC and Oceance. All three vessels contain the Danfoss Drives solutions!
